Remington 700: ADL, BDL, and SPS:
ADL:
- Receiver and barrel are the same on both ADL and BDL.
- ADL is available with wood or synthetic stocks and carbon-steel barreled actions.
- ADL uses a blind magazine and can only be unloaded through the top by working the bolt open and closed.
- Checkering on the ADL stock may be pressed into the wood rather than cut.
BDL:
- BDL features either a detachable mag or a hinged floor-plate.
- BDL is available with American Walnut, synthetic or laminated-hardwood stocks, carbon or stainless-steel barreled actions, and mirror-image left-hand versions in the Model 700 BDL and Model 700 LSS models.
- BDL will generally have a nicer finish and options than the ADL.
- BDL usually more expensive than ADL.
CDL:
- CDL stands for “Classic Delux”.
- Same action and barrel, but with very fancy finish.
SPS:
- SPS stands for “Special Purpose Synthetic”.
- Usually equipped with a synthetic stock and set up for tactical use.

Manufacture Code On Your Remington’s Serial Number:
Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle (or shotgun) on the left side, just forward of the receiver. The first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel (the receiver and barrels do get switched around).
According to the “Blue Book of Gun Values”, the coding continues as follows:
