Spoiler: Don’t Do It!

I purchase one of these zero magnification red-dot optics manufactured by Bushnell with the intention of mounting it on a .22LR rifle, or a shotgun to shoot slugs with.  After closely examining it I promptly returned it to the store.  The optic features a knob that allows you to select from four different reticles.  The reticles were nice and bright and could easily be seen in bright daylight.  No complaints there.  In theory the multiple reticle choice sounds really cool and useful, but what immediately turned me off was the fact that if you zero the rifle with one of the reticles, the other reticles are not necessarily zeroed.  Also, it was possible to accidentally nudge the reticle selection knob out of detent.  In this condition the reticle will still be visible, but not shoot where you want it to.  I want guns to be simple to use, reliable, and to work when I need them.  I don’t want to have to worry that I have the correct reticle selected, and that the reticle is actually pointing the rifle where I am aiming.  This one is too complex and has too many opportunities to let you down.  While the price is tempting, you should stay away from the Bushnell Trophy Red-Dot.
