Gas Can Nozzles Suck:
Ancient gas can nozzles use to pour freely and had an internal piece of screen that acted as a flame arrestor. Those old designs are long gone. Original nozzles seen on early versions of the ubiquous red plastic gas cans flowed freely, but were prone to make a mess, and were also prone to allow a spark or flame travel up into a pouring can and cause an explosion. New style gas can nozzles are designed to be child proof and to limit spilling, however they are a pain in the ass to use, the complicated mechanism causes more spillage than it saves, and the new designs have done nothing to make the cans safe from internal ignition. The situation is so bad that Blitz, the company that enjoyed the market share of gas can sales, has been sued out of existence by burn victims, and the companies that have stepped in to fill the gas can void make an even crappier product. Before you give up hope of ever having a pleasant gasoline pouring experience and put a gun in your mouth, there is hope.
